This was a great article.

I’ve been looking for a level-headed discussion of Xbox after Redfall and Spencer’s role in the whole thing and you did a great job.

I’m a fan of Spencer, especially as a business person, but after playing an hour or so of Redfall I was shocked that this was one of two AAA games for the console in 2023.

And it’s depressing, because you’re right, this is probably the end of Phil’s tenure. There was a lot of hope in his strategy, but he couldn’t quite bring it together.

I just cannot understand how a company with this much money and power and influence cannot release a good AAA game.

Well done!

Hey man, thanks for reading and commenting, I appreciate it more than you know. I'm a Phil Spencer fan as well, even if they fanboys don't want to see it here. He is a breath of fresh air in how open he is with the fanbase and he conducts himself well, clearly he's a good guy but the results have not been there.

What is the most baffling to me is how people claim that not selling consoles and games isn't Xbox's main agenda, that their strategy is now service based. That's an incredible leap in goal post moving and convenient as hell when you're getting your ass kicked in the only way we have every measured success in the video game industry since its inception.

Cheers.
